Does your child have ADD/ADHD or a Vision Problem?

Let's compare Vision Problems and ADD.
Click on the link above to see the symptom similarities between Vision Problems and ADD/ADHD.

Take our Online Vision Quiz for children to see if your child has a vision problem that interferes with learning.

Since vision problems and ADD/ADHD have a great deal of similarities and vision problems can be objectively and definitively diagnosed as compared to ADD/ADHD why not have your child tested for a vision condition before putting them on STIMULANT medications?

ADD/ADHD Vision Problems
  • Condition of the brain that makes it difficult for children to control behavior.

  • Can be one of several visual conditions that interfere with the brain's ability to process information from the outside world making learning difficult.
  • The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) estimates that between 3% and 5% of children and 4.1% of adults, ages 18 to 44 have ADD/ADHD.

  • According to the American Optometric Association (AOA) and the College of Optometrist in Vision Development (COVD): the prevalence of vision efficiency problems in school-aged children is 15-25%, the prevalence of amblyopia (lazy eye) is ~2%, strabismus (eye turn) is 2-6% in the general population, and visual dysfunctions are among the most common aftermath associated with acquired brain injuries.
  • No proven test for ADD/ADHD-diagnosed mainly by symptoms currently available.

  • Multiple objective (determined by the doctor) tests to determine vision problems.
  • Makes it difficult to function at school, at home, and/or in social settings.

  • Make it difficult to do school or home work and can cause behavior problems.
  • Can be associated with a learning disability.
  • Learning disabilities can mimic visual disorders.
  • There is no proven cure for ADD/ADHD. Although Treatment may not fully eliminate the ADD/ADHD-type behaviors, most children respond well with STIMULANT medications and behavior therapy.

  • A study done at Children's Eye Center, University of San Diego, uncovered a relationship between a common vision disorder, convergence insufficiency (CI), and ADHD.  The study "showed that children with CI are 3 times more likely to be diagnosed with ADHD than children without the disorder." According to another recent study the Convergence Insufficiency Treatment Trial, 73% of children who had CI and were between the ages of 9-17 undergoing in office vision training/therapy were considered successfully treated.

These statements were made by the American Academy of Pediatrics. Read the article by clicking the link to the left-AAP on ADD/ADHD. The above mentioned study on convergence insufficiency can be read in full by clicking the link to the left called Vision Study on CI.
